Chain Maille
In jewelry making we often use jump rings to connect other parts, securing a clasp to a necklace or charms to a bracelet; but you can also make jewelry with nothing but jump rings, too. The jewelry making technique of chain maille combines jump rings to create chains, knots, necklaces, bracelets and earrings, and can be as simple or complex as you desire. Requiring little more than pliers to open and close the jump rings and a good supply of jump rings to work with, this useful way to make jewelry is an easy and versatile technique to add to your jewelry toolbox.

Lapidary
A gemstone is the perfect medium for a jewelry artist to display color and light—not to mention what a fashion statement it can make. But good gemstones do not grow on trees. Most of them start out as minerals that have to be located, carefully dug out of the ground, hauled home, examined for potential as lapidary rough, oriented correctly, and cut by an expert lapidary. And if you want your gem conveniently on your hand or around your neck, then that stone also needs the talent and deft touch of an expert jewelry artist.
