COURSE: NEW! Precious Metal Overlay & Inlay Techniques with Marcus Hunt
DIVISION: Metal Engraving
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

Prerequisites: This course requires instructor approval for enrollment. Contact GRS for details.

DATE: October 25-29, 2010
HOURS: 8am-5pm (CST)
LOCATION: GRS Training Center • Emporia, KS 66801
PRICE: $1195.00

DESCRIPTION: Traditional inlay buries all but the very surface of the precious metal below the surface of the metal being inlayed. Gold is far expensive to not make full use of it. By using overlay and/or damascene techniques, the artist uses much less gold or silver-as much as 70% to 80% less.

Many items can be embellished using this technique, including firearms, knives, jewelry, and belt buckles as well as things like western spurs, bits, and conchos. Also included within this course will be gold inlay lettering techniques, raised inlays on a textured surface (especially useful when a surface needs preserving), making reusable transfers, and professional tips and pointers for when things go wrong or need repairing.
